Zoran Mušič

I paint for myself, because I must. It's like breathing. If I was forbidden to paint, I would be left without air…» During the prison in the Dachau camp, I did it risking my own life; it was my only chance to survive the everyday horror.

Dear visitor, I was a Slovenian painter and printmaker, born in Gorizia. Some people know me as “the painter of the little horses”, as I have have often painted the Dalmatian landscapes, with the typical horses. But the most critically acclaimed work has been We are not the last, a collection of sketches in which I transformed the terrifying life at the Dachau concentration camp into documents of universal tragedy. Next to painting I got into printmaking, and created numerous etchings. My production has been honored at the Biennale in Venice - I loved the mosaics and Byzantine icons I approached in that city - and in numerous international exhibitions, such as in France (Paris was my second hometown), Spain, Germany and the United States.
