Domenico Ponzi

This palace is a small museum: the frescos by Cadorin and Del Neri, the mosaic by Matilde Festa Piacentini, a picture by Tato, a painting by Pericle Gentili and my monument to the fallen of the Great War.

I am the sculptor Domenico Ponzi. I started sculpting when I was almost forty years old (born in 1891, I died in 1973), but I would say I was good enough and if you pass by the Post Office in Grosseto and Palermo you can have an idea. In Gorizia, my lying Fante – that completed the war memorial - was merged during the second world war for necessities related to war. Nothing personal, I tell you: even another bronze statue of Napoleone Martinuzzi, depicting Santa Gorizia, suffered the same fate.
