Basaglia Park

Annexed to the Provincial Psychiatric Hospital, built between 1905 and 1908, there is the Basaglia Park, which is today very different from how it was originally.

Along the pathways that connect the different buildings, damaged during the First World War and rebuilt in 1933 along Austro-Hungarian lines, you can admire several tree varieties and shrubs. There is also a rich fauna: the park is the ideal habitat for squirrels, woodpeckers and hares. The park is named after Dr. Franco Basaglia, a famous promoter of the new psychiatry. He worked for several years in the Gorizia Hospital and started a revolution in psychiatric care that led to a closure of all psychiatric hospitals.
