Maria Teresa Carlotta

Dear visitor, I am Maria Teresa Carlotta of Bourbon, the eldest daughter of Louis XVI of France and Maria Antonietta of Austria. When I came to the world, although the kingdom anxiously awaited a male heir, my mother welcomed me with joy: "Poor little girl, that makes you no less dear to me. A boy would have been the Son of France, but you shall be mine.” My adolescence was upset by the revolutionary events; after the collapse of the monarchy, I was imprisoned and forced to undergo tragic experiences that struck me in the soul, condemning me to a perpetual state of sadness and melancholy. However, I was the most liked person at the time of the First Restoration in 1814, as well as the emblem of the peace and reconciliation of the French people. I'm also known for my "reddened eyes," that Louis XVIII did not stop showing the crowd whenever he could. The way of exile took me to Gorizia in 1836; now I rest in the monastery of Castagnevizza next to the other Bourbons, including my uncle Carlo X, my husband Luigi Antonio, my nephew Henry.
