Carlo Michelstaedter
Dear visitor, I was a Gorizia philosopher (1887 - 1910) and I was concerned with art, literature, poetry, but above all thought and life. I was driven and carried by a love for endless knowledge useful to daily living. I long discussed philosophy, especially with my friends Nino and ‘Rico. We met in the attic of Palazzo Paternolli, which represented our little big refuge, located in the heart of Gorizia. My philosophical thought is still very present: a sort of analysis aimed at an authentic renewal of the sense of life; the same life I interrupted by suicide, and this action is still on debate today. For the importance of my works, the city built a statue of me, in via Rastello, and named a street after me. Today, I rest in the Jewish cemetery of Valdirose.
