Picotti e Grusovin - auditorium regionale

Mariateresa Grusovin (Gorizia - 1940)

Giorgio Picotti (Gorizia - 1938)

Mariateresa Grusovin and Giorgio Picotti graduated in Architecture at the University of Turin and in 1967 jointly started in professional practice. They won the public competition for the Palazzo della Regione with its auditorium in Gorizia (1969 – 1977) opened in the summer of 1976. The building includes a hall with seating for 372, dressing rooms, a bar and all amenities necessary for cultural events of any kind. The Auditorium fits the urban landscape in an original way: surrounded by green, it has an exposed metallic lattice modulated by panels and cladding slabs. Of its three floors, the ground floor is more aback than its upper floors and has a perimeter of pillars – this formal amplification further enhances the sense of being immersed in the surrounding greenery. The linearity of the building's facade is reminiscent of the administrative centre of Deere and Company in Illinois by Saarinen that too is immersed in greenery and marked by an exposed metallic structure.
