Carlo X

I became king at the age of 67. I belonged to another era and I lost forever the French throne by the Bourbons. During my exile eventually I ended up in Gorizia; I spent my last days in Palazzo Coronini.

Dear visitor, I am Charles X of the House of Bourbon, last king of France. By a stroke of fate

I escape the tragedy of the Revolution. Surviving brothers and nephews, in 1824 I found myself on the throne. I probably should have realized that times had changed, but I am convinced that no assembly, that is democratically elected, would dare to oppose the will of a king ruling by divine right! Strangely enough, the French didn’t agree with me and their violent reaction forced me to leave the throne and the country. That's how I arrived in Gorizia in 1836. From the window of my room at Palazzo Coronini, I could see the monastery of Castagnevizza. I didn’t have the time to visit it, but my mortal remains will rest there forever.
