On the second day, early in the morning, the Emperor wanted to visit the cemetery in the neighboring village Šempeter, today in Slovenia, to pay homage to the grave of Count Giovanni Battista Coronini, an army officer that was his tutor from 1836 to 1848. The Emperor attended a mass in the cemetery chapel with the Coronini family, whose “palazzo” was in the village. It was completely reconstructed after the First World War by the architect Max Fabiani. The building has since 2005 been the Šempeter Town Hall. In some rooms of the town hall today are displayed objects, pictures and other memorabilia owned by Giovanni Battista Coronini and his descendants.
