Our route bends slightly to the right along what was once the Contrada del Duomo, now Via Marconi, dominated by the imposing bell tower of the Duomo, dedicated to the city's patron saints, Saints Hilary and Tatian. The Duomo is also the Metropolitan Church and Cathedral of Gorizia, whose original layout, modified many times over the centuries, dates back to the 13th century.

On the right side of the Cathedral is one of the most interesting markers on our route: the sundial by Giovanni Giuseppe Barzellini (1730-1809), a prominent scholar of mathematics, topography, astronomy, and agriculture, a son of the County. Recently restored, the sundial retains some elements of mystery regarding its reading and the interpretation of certain vertical and horizontal lines, as well as certain dates, the meaning of which has not yet been fully clarified.
