The Public Garden, created in 1863 on agricultural land owned by the De Grazia family, originally included the entire area that sloped from Corso Verdi down to the then-called “Busa dela Volpe”, or the current Valletta del Corno, but was later reduced to its current dimensions for traffic needs.

The presence of evergreen trees, such as magnolia, holm oak, and maritime pine, as well as deciduous trees such as horse chestnut, lime, hackberry, plane tree, and ginkgo biloba, as well as patches of nandina domestica and mahonia japonica, give the park, which has always been a place for children from Gorizia to play and meet, a relaxing atmosphere and, in the summer, an invigorating coolness.
