Professor Da Fano's house (demolished)

Home of Angelo Moisè Da Fano (1886-1959): professor and educator of the Jewish Community, as well as a figure of great importance for the revival of Judaism in Gorizia and beyond.

A mathematics graduate from the University of Graz, at the outbreak of the First World War he went to Zurich, where he oversaw the Jewish and Zionist education of the children of Eastern European refugees. In 1922, upon his return to the city, he continued his mission as an educator, instructing young people in their return to Jewish life: not only in theory but also in practice, through activities (in stark contrast to the tendencies of the older generations, oriented toward assimilation). To this end, the educator established two youth groups divided by age group and several Hebrew language courses.
