Piazza Sant'Antonio – The Habsburgs
Franz Joseph's visit continued with a stop at Piazza Sant'Antonio, where the covered wood market had been located since 1852.
A lively trade in Cragnolino barrels also took place there, and during the numerous fairs that still enlivened the city in the 19th century, acrobats' booths with a wide variety of attractions found their place.
Here, for the occasion, the Imperial Royal Agricultural Society, chaired by Count Francesco Coronini, had set up an exhibition of fresh and dried fruit, candied fruit, and locally grown grapes, which aroused the interest and satisfaction of the sovereign.
