Paternolli House
On the side of the square opposite the church of Sant'Ignazio stands the Paternolli house, which on November 20, 1915, was hit by a 28 cm Italian shell that tore its facade apart.
The building was then home to the renowned publishing and printing house owned by the Partenolli family, which, especially in the second half of the 19th century, had established itself as one of the most important cultural institutions in Gorizia, responsible for publishing a large portion of the local periodicals in German, Italian, and Slovenian. After the war, due to severe damage, the printing house moved to the Trgovski Dom building, and the building became better known as the "Bombi" house, after the name of its new owners.
