Coronini Cronberg Palace – Bourbon

Palazzo Coronini Cronberg was the last residence of the King of France Charles X of Bourbon.

Charles X, former Count of Artois, ascended the throne of France in 1824 upon the death of his brother Louis XVIII. In 1830, with the unpopular Ordinances of Saint Cloud, he sparked the so-called July Revolution, which quickly led to his abdication and exile. Arriving in Gorizia in October 1836, along with his court and family, he took up residence in the sixteenth-century palace then owned by Count Michele Coronini Cronberg. Less than a month later, on November 6, the sovereign died suddenly of cholera. Inside Palazzo Coronini, a historic residence open to the public by will of its last owner, among other richly furnished rooms, you can visit what was once the king's bedroom, now transformed into an elegant early nineteenth-century salon. This salon houses, in addition to the sovereign's portrait, relics and mementos testifying to his presence in Gorizia.
