Fountain of Neptune
On the side of the square that leads towards Via Carducci, stands the Fountain of Neptune, created in 1756 by the sculptor Marco Chiereghin based on a design by Nicolò Pacassi.
The statue, damaged by bombing, lost its original trident and the golden crown on its head due to a hailstorm of shrapnel. The fountain was one of the few drinking water sources available to the population. Precisely because of this function, several civilians lost their lives during the bombing while trying to collect water.
