The monumental entrance gate to the medieval castle village dates back to the 17th century, and takes its name from Emperor Leopold I of Austria, who, as remembered by the plaque present there, visited the city of Gorizia in 1660.

Just above the entrance bastion, in the shade of a beautiful maritime pine, a small garden invites you to pause and gaze over San Marco Hill, Dosso Faiti, the deep ravine of the Vallone, and down to San Michele and the Isonzo plain—the sites that were the scene of fierce and bloody battles during the Great War. It's impossible to know, but surely countless, how many couples, from Gorizia and elsewhere, began their shared life journey here... and surely many more will do so in the future.
