Once the mass was over, the emperor walked down “with a quick pace to the middle of the square” where he reviewed the troops on foot, greeting all the officers.

Then, at his signal, the parade began, led by the band. The troops moved to the far end of the square, passed in front of the Captain's Palace, and marched off along Via della Caserma, now Via Oberdan, flanking the old Jesuit college, which had been used as a barracks since 1776.

In 1900, it housed an infantry regiment. Having survived the war, it was completely demolished in 1938 as part of an urban renewal project linked to the opening of what is now Via Roma. The INPS building now stands in its place.
