Umberto Cuzzi (Poreč 1891 – Turin 1973)

The current home of the Max Fabiani Art School, the Casa dell'ONB was designed by architect Umberto Cuzzi in 1927 and completed in 1928. The building, constructed on the site of Villa Ritter, has a distinctly rationalist design. The main semicircular body serves a dynamic, hinge-like function, with two additional wings grafted onto it. The semicircular section is set slightly back from the two projecting vertical elements, which frame and enhance the central body by supporting the intersection of the two wings. Renovations over time have included the addition of a third floor in the longer wing and the central layout. The building's facades retain classical, academic-inspired compositional elements; however, the rational composition "made of masses, planes, and simple balances" prevails.
