The plaque displayed on the facade of this building, now owned by the Municipality, recalls that the glottologist Graziadio Isaia Aascoli (1829-1907) lived in this building.

In 1861, in his early thirties, he was appointed professor at the Scientific-Literary Academy of Milan. In the Lombardy capital, in addition to teaching, he devoted himself to writing linguistics texts and articles, which were published in Italian and European journals. In 1873, he founded the periodical Archivio glottologico italiano, which continues to publish today.

In 1889 he was appointed Senator of the Kingdom of Italy. He died in 1907 in Milan, where he still rests today in the monumental cemetery.

An illustrious personality from Gorizia, in addition to the main street that runs through the old ghetto, a bust has been dedicated to him in the Public Gardens in Ascoli.
