Garden Street – School Street

The imperial procession continued along Via del Giardino, so called because of the presence on one side of the public garden, which had been inaugurated in 1863.

On the opposite side, in the area currently occupied by the Post Office, there was once a fruit and vegetable market, later moved to the other side of the street, where the Covered Market, built in 1927, still stands today.

At the point where Via del Giardino met Via della Scuole, now Via Mameli, an exedra decorated with stucco, flags, and cockades was placed, where a large representation of Gorizia's ladies awaited the emperor, flanked by a group of young girls dressed in white, representing the various female schools.

The sovereign alighted from the carriage to receive a floral tribute from the mayor's daughter, after which he personally greeted some of the city's most prominent ladies.
