Beyond the gate, two roads branch off. Taking the one on the right and climbing the stairs, you walk along the walkway that borders the eastern side of the Castle.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the area was covered with vegetable gardens and vineyards facing the Val di Rose, now the site of the former Casa Rossa border crossing. During the war, the land was ravaged by trenches built by the Italians, while the simple peasant homes adjacent to the noble buildings were reduced to a pile of ruins.
