Having climbed back into the carriage, the emperor traveled along Via delle Scuole, which overlooked the ancient Verdenberg seminary founded by the Jesuits, at the time occupied by the Imperial Royal Austrian Gymnasium and today home to the Isontina State Library.

Passing under the last triumphal arch, decorated with green foliage wrapped in golden ribbons, Franz Joseph reached the Piazza Grande, now Piazza Vittoria, stopping in front of the Church of Sant'Ignazio. After being welcomed by the archbishop, he entered to attend the solemn mass organized in his honor, which concluded with the strains of the imperial anthem.

Outside, among others, awaiting him were the four cyclists with flower-decorated handlebars who had escorted the imperial carriage the entire journey.
