Attems Petzenstein Palace and the Habsburg Provincial Museum
Just after eight o'clock the emperor went to Piazza Corno, now De Amicis, all adorned with obelisks, flagpoles and green plants.
The Fountain of Hercules, sculpted in 1775 by Marco Chiereghin based on a design by Nicolò Pacassi, still stood in the center. It was moved following the opening of Via Silvio Pellico to accommodate the new tram route, inaugurated in 1906. The statue is now located in the courtyard of the nearby Palazzo Attems Petzenstein, where the Provincial Museum, with its natural history and archaeological collections previously housed in the Palazzo degli Stati Provinciali, had just been moved in 1900.
The emperor officially inaugurated the new headquarters, signing the visitors' register and lingering for about half an hour to admire the collections. The rest of the morning was devoted primarily to audiences, and after a second gala lunch, preparations began for the departure, which took place after four o'clock from the Southern Station.
Franz Joseph never returned to Gorizia.
