Built in 1902 to a design by architect Andrea Perco, the Electricity Works was owned by the Vienna Gas and Electricity Company. The impact of Joseph Hoffman's teachings on Rodolfo Perco, Andrea Perco's son, is evident in this work, which was among the first to embrace the "new art" proclaimed by the Vienna Secession. The unmistakable linearity of the iron parapets on the building's main façade is in keeping with the abandonment of the static symmetries characteristic of Gorizia's architecture of the period, as is the use of discordant planes, levels, and volumetric developments, which converge in the elegant proportions that make this building the most striking example of Secessionism in the city.
