Located to the east, just beyond the border and a short distance from the Castle, the Castagnevizza hill is home to the seventeenth-century Franciscan Monastery from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of this side of the city.

Famous throughout the world as the resting place of the remains of the last King of France, Charles X of Bourbon, the monastery also houses an important library with more than 10,000 volumes, including thirty incunabula and, particularly worthy of mention, the first Slovenian grammar, dating back to 1548. In the immediate vicinity of the convent thrives the magnificent rose garden, the second largest in the world, created in the 19th century and open to visitors since 2004, where you can admire 80 of the 100 species of Bourbon roses still existing.

Between May and June each year, the blossoming fills the surrounding area with color and scent, lending it a sweet, magical atmosphere conducive to the birth of new love.
