Renewal is the constant in my life. First a Catholic, then a Lutheran and Reformer. In Gorizia, I preached in Slovenian, Italian, and German. I published the first books in Slovenian, and for this reason, I am considered the father of Slovenian literature.
Dear visitor, I am considered the father of Slovenian literature. In 1550, I published "The Catechism," the first book printed in the Slovenian language, which was followed by many other religious works.
Besides being a writer, I was also a reformer and considered the most active proponent of the Protestant Reformation in Slovenia. Renewal was the constant throughout my life. Initially a Catholic, I was drawn to Lutheranism at the school of the Bishop of Trieste, Pietro Bonomo, and stayed with a noble family in Piazza Cavour in Gorizia, where I preached in three languages: Slovenian, German, and Italian.
