Nicholas Pacassi

I am one of the leading figures of eighteenth-century Gorizia and was the first architect at the court of Maria Theresa. I designed that quiet green corner in the heart of the city, the park of Palazzo Attems Santa Croce, now the town hall.

Dear visitor, I was an Italian-Austrian architect, the first at the court of Empress Maria Theresa. I was active primarily in the Habsburg states, particularly in the cities of Vienna, Prague, Innsbruck, and Gorizia, where I participated in the design of castles, royal palaces, and cathedrals. The most important work of my youth is located in Gorizia, Palazzo Attems-Petzsenstein, home to the Provincial Museums. The original features of the façade, which was characterized by a transitional style between Baroque and Rococo, are not as you see them today, having undergone a Neoclassical renovation in the first half of the 19th century. The design of the park of Palazzo Attems Santa Croce, now the town hall, is also my work. In my work, I have incorporated stylistic elements of the Austrian Baroque, whose results were highly effective in 18th-century Gorizia, of which I am considered one of the leading figures.
