Giacomo Casanova

I'm known as an adventurer, writer, poet, alchemist, diplomat, philosopher (and so on and so forth), and a citizen of the then Republic of Venice; but perhaps not everyone knows that in 1744 I visited the beautiful city of Gorizia, and the news of it even made the pages of the "Gazzetta Goriziana."

 

Dear visitor, perhaps not everyone is aware that I too was among those who visited the beautiful city of Gorizia. You know me as an adventurer, writer, poet, alchemist, diplomat, philosopher, secret agent (and so on and so forth), and citizen of the then Republic of Venice. This visit took place in September 1744 and is not legend, but reality, attested to by numerous documents. The news, for example, appeared in the pages of the "Gazzetta Goriziana," which read: "On Saturday the 10th of this month, Mr. Giacomo Casanova di Saint Gall passed through here, renowned for the many famous encounters he had while touring Europe, as well as for the works he published, among which we have already announced in one of our papers, the History of the Events in Poland; he unexpectedly obtained his pardon and after twenty years returned to his homeland, Venice."
