Edmond Halley

Many people know the comet that bears my name: Edmond Halley – English scientist and engineer – but few know that the walls and bastions of the Castle of Gorizia are, in part, my work.

Dear visitor, I am Edomond Halley – an English astronomer, mathematician, and engineer.
You're probably familiar with the comet that bears my name. However, you should know that since London, my birthplace in 1656, I have traveled extensively and undertaken scientific expeditions throughout the world. During my travels, I also stopped for a time in Gorizia, where I had the honor of directing the strengthening of the Castle walls, building – among other things – the "new Bastion" and the wall that extends towards Castagnevizza.
Visit these wonderful and powerful works, which for me were as exciting a challenge as the discovery of a comet!
