Count Leonardo

Dear visitor, my name is Leonardo and I was the last count of the noble Gorizia family (also known as the Mainardini). My lineage is credited with building the 11th-century castle that still dominates the city today, and with controlling the County of Gorizia. After my marriage to Paola Gonzaga, I long hoped, but in vain, for the birth of an heir to prevent the extinction of my family. Upon my death in 1500, my fiefdoms, despite being claimed by Venice, passed to the Habsburgs, then Archdukes of Austria.
