Augustin Louis Cauchy

As you may have guessed from my name, I am a scientist and mathematician originally from Paris. My life has always been closely tied to the Bourbons, so much so that I renounced prestigious academic positions in my homeland to remain loyal to them.

Dear visitor, upon arriving in Italy, I abandoned my chair of Sublime Physics in Turin to accompany and teach the rudiments of mathematics and science to Henry V of Bourbon, grandson of Charles X, during his exile. Thus I also arrived in Gorizia, where in 1836 I was forced to witness the death of Charles X at Palazzo Coronini Cronberg. 

I stayed in Gorizia for another 2 years, a guest at Palazzo Strassoldo, until Enrico came of age.

Many consider me the most prolific mathematician since Euler, with 27 volumes and over 13,000 published pages. My work on the mathematical methods of calculus, along with that of my distinguished colleagues Lagrange and Rolle, paved the way for modern mathematics. 

Even a crater on the surface of the Moon was named after me!
