Angelo Mazzoni

I designed numerous public buildings—such as the Post Office—across Italy. In the postwar period, however, much of my work was opposed, and I was forced to move overseas.

 

Dear visitor, as an engineer and architect, in the first half of the 20th century I dotted Italy with numerous public buildings, stations, and railway and postal buildings.

With my poetics, influenced by the painting of Mario Sironi, I have purified the classicist language and harnessed technological innovation to serve creativity. To decorate the Post and Telegraph Building in Gorizia, I collaborated with several artists, such as Guido Cadorin for the murals in the external portico and stairwell. Due to the post-war purge, my work was opposed and criticized, so much so that I was forced to move to Colombia, where I was offered a university chair in History of Architecture and Urban Planning.
