UNGARETTI POET AND SOLDIER

MARCO GOLDIN'S EXHIBITION ON UNGARETTI STARTS SATURDAY 26TH AT THE SANTA CHIARA MUSEUM

Starting Saturday, October 26, the Santa Chiara Museum on Corso Verdi will host "Ungaretti, Poet and Soldier. The Karst and the Soul of the World. Poetry, Painting, History," conceived and curated by Marco Goldin.

The tour will begin with a specially produced half-hour documentary telling the story of Ungaretti on the Karst. A large 6x3 meter screen will display all the footage, from the period to those shot with drones on the Karst in recent months, animated by Alessandro Trettenero.

You will then be able to admire around ninety paintings that twelve Italian painters created in the places where Ungaretti lived on the Karst: Laura Barbarini, Graziella Da Gioz, Franco Dugo, Giovanni Frangi, Andrea Martinelli, Matteo Massagrande, Francesco Michielin, Cesare Mirabella, Alessandro Papetti, Franco Polizzi, Francesco Stefanini, Alessandro Verdi.

Additionally, there will be a reading of some poems from The Buried Port by actor Gilberto Colla, with critical comments by Paolo Ruffilli in conversation with Marco Goldin. An illustrated biography of Ungaretti will keep the poet's story alive.

The true highlight will be the display of the first of 80 original copies of The Buried Port, in its 1916 edition. This copy belongs to the Udine Library, which is lending it for the occasion after its restoration. On another large screen, visitors will be able to see and hear all the historical and military insights, curated by Lucio Fabi. The battles on the Karst Plateau will also be analyzed through military maps and charts, relics, and uniforms.
