THE BOURBONS OF FRANCE IN GORIZIA. MEMORIES AND IMAGES OF EXILE

On 21 October 1836, Gorizia became the scene of an important episode in European history: the arrival of the King of France Charles X of Bourbon, in exile after the revolution of 1830. A few days later the sovereign died of cholera and was buried in the Castagnevizza monastery.

The royal family remained in Gorizia for almost a decade, making the city a hub for loyal monarchists and French travellers, while the local aristocracy – including the Coronini counts – participated in the life of the court in exile, marked by sober elegance.

The exhibition "The Bourbons of France in Gorizia. Memories and Images of Exile" will be open to the public on Thursday the 29th at Palazzo Coronini Cronberg. The exhibition recounts this chapter of history through objects, images, and documents.

Souvenirs, including prints, paintings and relics, that Count William collected will be exhibited for the first time.

Visiting hours: Wednesday–Friday 10:00–13:00 and 15:00–18:00, Saturday, Sunday, and holidays 10:00–13:00 and 15:00–19:00. Guided tours begin every hour.
