Following the exhibition of Caravaggio's masterpiece "The Taking of Christ," which attracted nearly 12,000 visitors, the Carigo Foundation's Smart Space welcomes another work of exceptional value.
The spaces at Via Carducci 2 now house Iter Sancti Sepulcri, a parchment manuscript from 1396 owned by the Palazzo Coronini Cronberg Foundation and preserved in the State Archives of Gorizia.
The manuscript recounts the penitential journey to Jerusalem of two contemporary nobles: the diplomat Michele da Rabatta from Gorizia and the Friulian mercenary captain Morando di Porcia. The only account of a medieval pilgrimage preserved in northeastern Italy, Iter Sancti Sepulcri is also the only manuscript of its kind in Italy to be enriched with drawings and images made along the way.
The section, which enriches the “Gorithia – Between the Wrinkles of Time” itinerary, can be visited free of charge, by reservation, until Wednesday 3 September, from Monday to Friday from 4pm to 7pm (visits at 4pm and 5.30pm), Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 10am to 1pm and from 4pm to 7pm (visits at 10am, 11.30am, 4pm and 5.30pm).
