DAG – DIGITAL ART GALLERY, EUROPE'S LARGEST DIGITAL GALLERY, OPENS IN GORIZIA: REFIK ANADOL'S IMMERSIVE WORK “DATA TUNNEL” ON DISPLAY UNTIL DECEMBER 2026

Over 300 meters of exhibition space, 100 of which are transformed into a visual environment entirely covered with state-of-the-art LEDs, for a total of 1,000 square meters of digital surface in an immersive experience space where art and technology merge. This is the DAG – Digital Art Gallery, the new immersive digital art gallery that has made the renovated Bombi Gallery the largest digital tunnel in Europe.

Refik Anadol, one of the world's most influential artists in digital art and data aesthetics, whose works are exhibited at institutions such as MoMA, the Centre Pompidou, the Serpentine, Palazzo Strozzi, and The Sphere in Las Vegas, has created "Data Tunnel" specifically for Gorizia, a continuous visual flow that spans the entire LED wall and transforms the gallery into a living digital organism. The installation stems from Anadol's research on the "Large Nature Model," an AI model trained on millions of environmental images and datasets from international museums and scientific archives. Data becomes pigment, memory, and visual matter, generating transforming organic forms that showcase the relationship between nature, technology, and perception.

Furthermore, "Data Loading" serves as an introduction to the work, displaying the original natural datasets before their processing through artificial intelligence. This sequence serves as a visual prelude to the exhibition's three main sections: Coral, Flora, and Fauna. This new intervention makes Anadol's creative process explicit: the audience first observes the natural matrices in their raw form, and then admires their algorithmic transformation in the immersive sequences that characterize the installation.

The artistic project is realized in collaboration with MEET and its founder Maria Grazia Mattei, who, in close collaboration with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, has managed the relationship with Refik Anadol and the artistic curation.

The restoration of Galleria Bombi, one of the most emblematic urban regeneration and cultural innovation projects in the area, breathes new life into a historic site, transforming it into an experiential space where art, data, light, and technology interact with the tunnel's architecture. Thanks to DAG, citizens and visitors enter a place where simply crossing the tunnel becomes an experience, where walking becomes a journey through light, sound, and meditation. Gorizia and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region are thus enriched with a strategic asset that blends culture and innovation within the urban context of the city. Gorizia is positioning itself as a center of excellence for digital art, capable of engaging with the best international experiences.
