GORIZIAN CHATTER

GORIZIAN CHATTER
Exploring Gorizia through words and places

Gorizia Chiacchiere is a series of meetings designed to rediscover little-known or particularly curious aspects of the city of Gorizia, alternating storytelling with on-the-ground discovery.

Each event is divided into two parts:
🔹 an evening lecture in the Sala delle Scuderie of Palazzo Coronini, with images and documents;
🔹 a walk or meeting the following day in the locations discussed.

An opportunity to delve deeper into local history and experience Gorizia in a new and engaging way.

THE FIRST THREE CHATS:

Friday, August 1st and Saturday, August 2nd, 2025,
SCULPTED GORIZIA. A journey through time among statues and myths. Curated by Alessia Zangrando.
With their austere stone gazes, the statues that enliven Gorizia's squares, courtyards, and gardens reflect 18th- and 19th-century tastes. But are they merely decorative elements, or do they conceal other meanings?

  • Friday, August 1st, 6:00 p.m., Palazzo Coronini Conference Room.
  • Saturday, August 2nd, at 9:30 a.m., meet in front of the entrance to Palazzo Coronini. The walk will end in Piazza Vittoria.

Friday, August 29 and Saturday, August 30, 2025:
THE HISTORY OF THE GHETTO GATE. By Antonella Gallarotti.
We're all familiar with the wrought-iron gate located near the synagogue, at the end of Via Ascoli, but what do we know about its history? They say it was the gate to the Jewish ghetto, but are you sure that's true? Do you know when it was made, what it was originally designed for, the name of the craftsman who forged it? Do you know when it was installed in its current location, where it was previously located, how many times it needed restoration? And what is its connection to the Coronini family? The "Gorizian Chat" event on August 29 and 30 will allow us to discover it together.

  • Friday, August 29, 6:00 p.m., Palazzo Coronini Conference Room.
  • Saturday, August 30, 6:00 p.m., meeting at Via Ascoli 19, Gorizia.

Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21, 2025:
THE MYSTERY OF THE CATHEDRAL'S OCTAGON. Between history and legend. Edited by Vanni Feresin.
The 2020 excavations next to Gorizia Cathedral uncovered the foundations of an octagonal building. A medieval ossuary or evidence of an older cult? The investigations reveal a story rooted in the Bronze Age, pushing Gorizia's origins back in time.

  • Saturday, September 20, 6:00 p.m., Palazzo Coronini Conference Room.
  • Sunday, September 21st, at 3:00 PM, meet in Corte Sant'Ilario, side entrance of the Cathedral. We will also visit the exhibition on the Cathedral's treasure.

The meetings are free, but reservations are recommended at info@coronini.it.
